Monaco narrowly falls to Portugal

Davis Cup

Despite a fierce battle on Court Rainier III, Monaco narrowly fell 3-2 to Portugal after an intense weekend.

The Monte-Carlo Country Club was electrified by the World Group I Davis Cup encounters. The Red and White fought valiantly until the final match but ultimately fell short.

A hard-fought contest

On Saturday, Valentin Vacherot gave Monaco a strong start with a hard-fought victory over Jaime Faria (6-4, 6-7, 6-2). However, Benjamin Balleret was unable to overcome Nuno Borges, falling 3-6, 1-6, bringing the tie level.

On Sunday, the Arneodo/Nys duo battled intensely but eventually fell to Cabral/Borges (3-6, 6-3, 5-7). Vacherot, in outstanding form, equalized for Monaco by defeating Borges (4-6, 6-1, 6-2).

Everything came down to the final singles match. Romain Arneodo fought courageously against Henrique Rocha but narrowly lost (5-7, 5-7), sealing Portugal’s victory.

A promising spirit

Despite the disappointment, the Monégasque team demonstrated they can compete at a high level. Their resilience and team spirit showed that they have the potential for great performances in the future.

Stay tuned for their next challenges!
